Tools from Graduate Colloquium
CRGE is pleased to offer a selection of online resources that have been gathered from our presenters at the monthly Graduate Colloquium. Below are a selection of such resources, which will be updated throughout the semester.
Advice for Preparing Journal Articles for Submission: This information sheet, prepared by Dr. Mary Corbin Sies of the Department of American Studies, was first presented at the October 2004 Graduate Colloquium. This small file includes a wealth of advice about the writing, editing and submission process for academic journals.
Pedagogy Toolkit:This toolkit, created by graduate students Johonna McCants and Kimberlee Staking, was first presented at the December 2004 colloquium. This innovative pedagogy was revisted in Spring 2005 at the March 10th colloquium in which Ms. McCants and Ms. Staking were joined by Laurie Kendall and expanded upon their initial project.
Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Funding for Qualitative Research:Tips for receiving funding for qualitative research, as well as a list of organizations which provide qualitative research grants.
Privilege Walk: This list of questions, offered by American Studies graduate students Johonna McCants and Laurie Kendall, was used during an exercise at the March 10th colloquium. This "Walk of Privilege" is designed to get students thinking about privilege and how it shapes their lives.
Reading List on Patricia Hill Collins and Intersectionality : This reading list and information pamphlet was prepared by the UM Libraries Diversity Team for distribution at the Patricia Hill Collins Graduate Colloquium in October 2005.
Top Ten List for Surviving Academic Job Talks: This David Letterman-style "Top Ten" list was prepared and presented by Dr. Mary Corbin Sies (American Studies, Co-Director of the Material Culture/Visual Culture RPA) at the November 2005 "Interdisciplinary Job Talks" colloquium.
