CrISP Selection Process and Requirements

Selection Criteria

The Consortium on Race, Gender and Ethnicity shall base selection of the CrISP scholars upon three factors:

  • The demonstration of an interest in our Research Program Areas
  • Grade point averages
  • Candidates'GRE scores.

CRGE will also offer CrISP fellowship students a half time RA-ship that will enable them to learn about the processes of research and the administration of a research center. Departments must guarantee a matching year of support for each year the student is a CrISP scholar. Departments should submit the dossiers of students' whose interests align with at least one of CRGE's Research Program Areas.

CRGE is particularly interested in students of color whose research interests focus on at least one of the above areas.

Program Activities and Requirements

As a CrISP scholar, participation in a particular area might include some of the following activities:

  • Gathering bibliographic resources for a particular area
  • Joining the research team within the area and potentially engaging in pilot work and collecting data.
  • Writing an original proposal that highlights their own contribution to the area
  • Making a presentation at a conference.

Additional ways for the students to learn what it means to join a national research center include:

  • Participating in the management of the Graduate Colloquium
  • Attending CRGE Speaker Series presentations
  • Developing and compiling CRGE web-related resources

Finally, one of the biggest advantages CRGE can offer CrISP scholars is the mentoring relationship that is structured around the assigned Research Program Area and its director.
