CRGE Announces Faculty and Staff Changes

The Consortium on Race, Gender and Ethnicity promotes four faculty members and hires a new Web site expert.

COLLEGE PARK, MD—The Consortium on Race, Gender and Ethnicity (CRGE), a nationally prominent research organization that promotes scholarship as well as faculty and graduate student development across the University of Maryland campus, announced faculty and staff changes beginning the Fall 2006 semester.

Formerly the Director of CRGE, Bonnie Thornton Dill now serves as Founding Director and will continue to remain highly involved in CRGE activities and long-range planning. However, the oversight of daily activities will be under the purview of the Director.

Dr. Ruth E. Zambrana currently serves as the Director of CRGE. She formerly served as CRGE’s Research Director. Dr. Zambrana’s responsibilities include expanding and growing the CRGE research program.

In Spring 2006, Dr. Amy E. McLaughlin was promoted to Associate Director position at CRGE. She formerly served as Assistant Director. She is responsible for the enhancement of the Consortium through proposal writing, facilitating the Research Interest Groups, and the day-to-day management of the Consortium.

Dr. Angel David Nieves was appointed in Fall 2006 as Director of Graduate Research and Training at CRGE, as well as continuing to be Co-Director of the Material Culture/Visual Culture Research Program Area for CRGE. Dr. Nieves is an Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is also a Resident Fellow at the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities.  He is an affiliate faculty member in the Departments of American Studies, Women’s Studies, African American Studies, and Anthropology, as well as an affiliate member of the Center for Heritage Resource Studies and the Program in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies.  Dr. Nieves is responsible for the CRGE Interdisciplinary Scholarship Program and serves as instructor for the Graduate Colloquium.

CRGE also announced the hiring of the Web site Coordinator. Jackie Donaldson is a current Master of Applied Anthropology student at the University of Maryland, College Park. Previously, she has worked for international health and development organizations in Washington, DC with a focus on communications and online outreach.

CRGE’s interdisciplinary work explores the intersections of race, gender, ethnicity and other dimensions of difference as they shape identities, behavior and complex social relations. CRGE holds several events each semester, including monthly graduate colloquia and symposiums.
